Start with a service you can deliver
A short city trip, family outing, business gathering and celebration on the water each need different arrangements. Establish which boat you have, how many guests it can carry, which waters it can operate in and who will run the trip. Each offer needs a clear itinerary, not just an appealing photograph.
General statements about tourism growth do not establish demand for a particular boat. Compare enquiries, requested dates, reasons for declining and trips that actually took place. Track weekdays, weekends and periods when trips are restricted or the boat is undergoing maintenance separately.
The boat, crew and boarding point
Motorboats, motor yachts, sailing yachts and riverboats differ in layout and operating conditions. Compare the actual specifications: capacity, sheltered seating, toilet facilities, passageways, boarding access and equipment. A category name alone guarantees neither dining seating nor access to a canal.
Before offering a trip, confirm crew arrangements, routes available to that vessel and access to the chosen pier. Check vessel documents, insurance terms and requirements for your particular type of operation. This article does not prescribe a universal set of permissions for every hire arrangement.
Count costs across the operating period
Include vessel upkeep, berthing, servicing, repairs, crew, fuel, cleaning, advertising and sales-channel commissions. Separate costs that continue without trips from the costs of each departure. Preparation, positioning, boarding and cleaning also take time, even when only cruising hours are billed.
An advertised hourly rate is not the owner's profit. Use your own records to consider different booking levels and the effects of idle time, cancellations or repairs. Historical market-wide price ranges do not replace your vessel's current rate and a complete cost calculation.
From enquiry to an agreed trip
An enquiry needs a date, time, guest count, preferred duration, route and extras. Before confirming, check vessel and crew schedules, travel between piers and preparation for the next group. A shared calendar helps reveal clashes, but its entries must reflect actual agreements.
Record the price, included services, boarding and return points, payment, cancellation and itinerary-change terms. Decide who contacts guests if weather or scheduling changes. Sending an enquiry does not by itself confirm availability or a booking.
Maintenance and turnaround time
Schedule maintenance and cleaning alongside paid trips. Assign responsibility for preparation, greeting guests and handing the boat over after its return. Avoid a schedule so tight that a fault or one delayed group makes every later commitment impossible.
Present verifiable terms
A useful listing shows current photographs of the actual vessel, capacity, equipment, rate conditions and a clear way to ask questions. Assess referrals, advertising and reviews through enquiries and completed trips. Do not promise equipment, routes or returns simply because another operator does.
Preparing information for the catalogue
Collect the vessel's name and specifications, original photographs, available services and contact details. The owners section lets you submit information for review. A submission does not mean automatic publication, verification of every document or a promise of a particular number of bookings.
Questions and answers
Can the hourly rate tell me the profit?
No. You need actual paid hours and all costs for the same period, including idle time and maintenance. A catalogue rate does not show how often a boat is booked.
What should be checked before confirming an enquiry?
Check boat and crew availability, guest count, route, pier, duration, total price and terms for changing the trip. Agree any extra services separately.
