St Petersburg bridges to photograph from the water

Palace Bridge can frame a panorama of the centre, while Trinity offers repeating spans and a long perspective. Daytime photography and watching a bridge open are different programmes. For a night trip, confirm the schedule for your date and an available viewing position.

Annunciation Bridge brings the Neva’s banks and long embankments into the composition. Exchange Bridge can be considered as part of a view of the Spit and surrounding water. Ask the captain to order the locations from your pier so travelling between them does not consume most of the session.

Anichkov Bridge stands on the Fontanka at Nevsky Prospekt; its horse sculptures offer detailed subjects. It is neither on the broad Neva nor a drawbridge. Check Fontanka access for the particular vessel; a walk ashore can complement photographs of the sculptures.

Check the light direction and take a test shot from the water. A tripod does not remove the boat’s movement, so a long exposure does not guarantee sharpness. Keep passageways clear, protect equipment from spray and change position only in agreement with the crew.
